Unless you’ve been living under a rock or were pleasantly whisked away by little green men within the last couple of years, Samyang Food’s Buldalk Bokkeum Myeon (aka Hot Chicken Flavored Ramen) series of fiery noodles needs no introduction. It takes the normal instant jjajang ramen to the next level by adding a good amount of spice and mixing all that with Ramen noodles. Just by using good milk and good cream, you’re halfway to satisfying your cravings in the best way already. Combining Buldak Samyang Spicy Ramen with your more traditional carbonara sauce gives you a delicious result! Dojeon (Challenge) is exactly what these noodles are… These noodles managed to zing my brain with the sheer spiciness and left my mouth and lips burning.

I suppose this is my way of making this creamy dish a bit more “healthy”, but you can feel free to switch it up! Though it definitely didn’t taste like the actual egg-based Carbonara sauce, it was pretty special in its own way. Samyang decided to up the ante on the original noodles and produced this nuclear version of hot chicken flavored ramen.Recipes that are adapted from other sources will be credited as such, with a link to the original recipe at the bottom of the recipe box. Unlike most of the noodles found in this series, the water isn’t drained, so these noodles actually have soup.

It’s definitely much milder than the other variants, but the decreased spice somehow affected the overall savoriness of the noodles as well.It comes in at almost exactly 2,000 SHU, which puts it ever so slightly behind the Buldalk Bokkeum Myeon Carbonara. The spicy soup carried a subtle sweetness, but was otherwise quite flat in terms of its flavour profile.

The cheesy and creamy goodness does manage to cut the spiciness a bit, at least at the subconscious level. The pasta part is replaced with the tteok, but you can re-substitute part of it with pasta if you wish. Offering up the same delicious Hot Chicken Flavored Ramen taste, Samyang Buldalk Bokkeum Myeon (Light), is 40% less in SHU than the original.The spice level is still intense, and I recommend adding extra cheese when you’re cooking it with the sauce to level up its cheesiness. However, they are still missing the solid ingredients that give you something to chew on, instead of just to gum on.
