Good lord, does Hiccup take charge in this book! There was very little of his typical "reluctant Hero" timidity here, while he still relied on his brains rather than his brawn (wait...what brawn?) to save the day. Well, okay. Technically, Camicazi stole the vegetable-that-in-this-review-shall-remain-unnamed, but that's splitting hairs. When Cressida wasn’t on the island, she was going to school at Marlborough College in Wiltshire where she met and became close friends with Lauren Child, a fellow author/illustrator and the creator of TV’s Charlie and Lola. Cressida and Lauren remain close friends. Indeed Lauren is godmother to Cressida’s daughter Clemmie. Every year, Cressida’s family spent four weeks of the summer, and two weeks of the spring, on the island. The family had to catch their own fish to eat. The house was lit by candle-light, and there was no telephone or television, so Cressida spent her time drawing and writing stories. Cressida wrote and illustrated her first picture book, Little Bo Peep’s Library Book, for Hodder Children’s Books in 1998. Lots of other authors have done the same – Robert Louis Stevenson drew a map of Treasure Island before starting to write. This is a really easy way of thinking about characters and setting. The only antidote is the Vegetable-that-No-one-Dares-Name – the POTATO. But the only way for Hiccup to find the cure is to face Norbert the Nutjob and the terrifying Sea Dragon, the DOOMFANG. This doesn’t need to be neat, and no one should be correcting it for spelling, because spelling doesn’t matter. I kept an sketchbook for The Wizards of Once for about 5 years. Once again, I was most enamored of the epilogue. The words of the aged Hiccup serve to reinforce the lesson that being clever and fair bear greater results than employing brute force and malice. I found myself getting all misty-eyed over his gratitude and wonder. Hiccup never takes his good fortune for granted - mostly because he works damned hard to earn it.
You can be inspired by your own experiences. Ideas I had about Vikings and dragons during summer holidays when I was 9 years old became 12 books, and a film and TV series. I had a slightly unusual childhood (I spent my summers on an uninhabited Scottish Island), but the world we all live in is full of extraordinary, wonderful idea for stories. You only have to watch an episode of Blue Planet to see that’s true. Did not have the time with children's attention spans. But yes, I shall, listen to this in its entirety !! Often kids say to be that they aren’t very good at writing, but I know that’s not true – what they’re struggling with is the mechanics of getting the words onto paper. If you can make up a game in the playground, or you tell your friends stories, you can be an author! Get an adult to write or type for you, if you need to.Hiccup's best friend Fishlegs thinks he has a nasty cold, but Old Wrinkly has diagnosed . . . VORPENTITIS, caused by the sting of a Venomous Vorpent, which is pretty much ALWAYS FATAL! After school, Cressida obtained a BA in English Literature from Oxford University, a BA in Graphic Design from St Martin’s and an MA in Narrative Illustration from Brighton. It is less dark and serious than some of the other volumes towards the end of the series but it is like home for me. It is like meditation in sense that it really relaxes me and lets me forget my worries as I enjoy some sarcasm and dark humor and comedic aspects of all those mad characters their meaningfull names and how they find themselves in all kinds of crazy imposdible situations and all those unexpected solutions to their problems. There's some of the best humor and jokes, found in this one. Of course the performance of David Tennant is unbelievably entertaining as well as it paints every second of the story so alive with all the voices of the characters and all those funny accents that you can immediately get lost in it for several hours on end without even realising it. I could go on and on about it, really. I'm a fan. All in all, this is an amazing story and audiobook and I would reccomend it to anyone who likes to escape and get lost into a fantasy world, kids and adults alike.

Dreamworks animated movies are great but this books are even better. the whole series is just a mosaic of increadable adventure stories so meticiously connected together into one epic tail of courage and kindness along with all the other elements of a great adventure; it is exciting and thrilling and full of unexpected twists and clif-hangers that keep you on your toes every moment troughout the story. There is also a lot of great humor that I absolutely loved and some of it even made me laugh out loud. And let me say, those are deffinetely NOT just kids books. They are full of great life lessons hidden in them that I doubt kids before 15 would even have been able to recognize. I found even some lessons on leadership and people management in it. Also motivational tips and lessons on responsability that comes with a position of power. All in all, this story is one that I would even compare to Harry Potter series in sense of quality of deapth that it offeres if you look at it more closely.
