The 5-axis image stabilization was even more impressive when we tried out the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV’s video functionality, providing smooth footage when walking with the camera handheld. The E-M10 Mark IV is the first camera in the OMD series to feature a flip-down LCD monitor, which makes capturing self-facing vlogging footage super simple. This screen is also particularly helpful when photographing high- or low-angle photos. During development, the Olympus design team led by Yoshihisa Maitani worked on a completely modular set of units called the MDN (Maitani-Darkbox-Normal), which resembled a 35mm Hasselblad. This camera was built as a prototype, and is sometimes referred to as the OM-X. If we had any criticisms, it would be that we’d love to see a mic port to go along with the 4K video capabilities and flip down screen. However, this would likely start to step on the toes of the Olympus OM-D E-M5 line, so we can understand why Olympus didn’t include this on their entry-level camera. The Zuiko OM lenses I use the most are the 35/2 and the fantastic 100/2.8. I can’t recommend that lens enough, it’s very similar to the justly famous Nikkor 105/2.5 (I’ve been using one of those since the 60s!)… but so much smaller and lighter.Olympus has included its trademark scene (SCN) and Art Filter modes, which function as you might imagine, placing 'creative' looks over images. We're not huge fans, but they can be fun to have a play with. We're more keen on the Advanced Photo (AP) section of the mode dial. It offers a versatile focal range that covers everything from landscapes to portraits. Plus, given the super compact size of this camera/lens combo, it makes for an ideal travel companion. It will capture quality shots without attracting too much attention, so it’s also ideal if you enjoy capturing more candid imagery. The camera's built-in light meter provides accurate exposure readings through the viewfinder, ensuring well-exposed photographs. It features a center-weighted metering system, which analyzes the light from the entire frame but gives more importance to the central area.

What Kind Of Photography Is The Olympus OM10 Best For? Anyone who has personal experience of purchasing a second-hand camera knows that the first roll you expose is a test roll, but for me, it was more than one. Using a mixture of both lenses, most of the images – if not all of them – came out blurred. After a few rolls and testing different things, I was starting to get frustrated. This wasn’t my first time with film, so I felt that I knew what I was doing, but this was really testing me. I decided to put the camera away for a while so I could save up and find a camera store that still did services and repairs whilst I continued my university studies. Pushing the camera’s ISO sensitivity to its limits, the results were usable, although details begin looking smudged past ISO 6400 when viewed at 100%. The ability to take better pictures in low light is further supported by the camera’s five-axis in-body image stabilization. This manages to keep images sharp when shooting handheld as slow as 1/8th of a second, which is a significant advantage for dimly lit scenes. Of course the E-M10 IV's Four Thirds sensor is rather smaller than the APS-C sensors in most of its rivals. In particular, those rivals will show an advantage as sensitivity rises, but this is somewhat offset by the Olympus' stabilizer; if you aren't shooting moving subjects, you can substantially slow your shutter speed (which can allow you to keep your ISO value lower) and get cleaner overall images. The OM-10 hit the markets in June 1979 at the same time as the OM-2N. The camera was a 35mm focal-plane shutter aperture priority AE SLR camera with an electronic shutter. Only aperture-priority AE was available with the camera unless the optional manual exposure adapter was installed. This allowed the setting of shutter speeds between 1s and 1/1000s, (bulb mode was also available). The camera was equipped with a fixed pentaprism viewfinder which contained an LED exposure indicator. The finder coverage was measured to be 93%. Now mind you, I’m an old pre-AI Nikon guy – my parents were pros and I grew up on Nikons and Nikkormats – and I still shoot with that wonderful gear. But besides being lighter/smaller and ergonomically delightful, the OM cameras and Zuiko lenses are really fabulous shooters. The OM-2’s light meter on Auto produces entire rolls of perfectly exposed shots… I never even bother using its match-needle Manual mode. I would love to focus on this being an unapologetically shooting-oriented camera, that puts the fun in photography rather than specs on a spec sheet. I would love this to be a camera I can buy for my girlfriend, so she can join me on days out taking photos without resorting to her phone.
