Description

You should be able to isolate an individual radiator with its own valves, with the caveat that some thermostatic valves leak a little when turned off especially if the room gets cold (mainly old ones but not necessarily). After doing this then the radiator should be isolated from the rest of the system, allowing you to remove the old bleed valve (carefully as there will still be a bit of pressure in the radiator) and screw in the new valve. So, in a bid to combine fitness with frugality, I've rounded up 20 ways you can exercise and get fit without spending a penny, both outdoors and at home. The only isolation I have is the lockshield+TRV - which I was under the impression would be sufficient to isolate a single rad, but it still seemed quite flow-y when I closed the valves and loosened the nut a bit.

This is what it looks like in use, the vent in the picture is white, as it was fitted in the factory and then painted along with the radiator.Personally, I know I need to drain, flush, descale, and refill, including inhibitor every couple of years anyway, because of a combination of hard water and the lowest point being a blower unit that easily clogs, in a room that needs the heat. Take out the bolt, get someone to plug the hole while doing this, wrap it with a couple of turns of PTFE and re-insert. Cut a small slit in the broken bleed screw shaft (with a small hacksaw) so I can turn it with a screwdriver.

Try the local scrappy - he's prolly gots loads of old rads sculling around and you may find one to match. He turned up just under an hour late, and it was quickly apparent that I knew more about heating systems than he did. However the balance of probablilty is that they are more likely to have they have the replaceable type of bleed valve than the more old fashioned rad you describe.

If anybody needs a bleed assembly for the Myson premier radiator, let me know and I'll send you one free, Myson sent me 6. Whether you’re looking for something ultra-modern, like mirrored glass radiators, or something more traditional, you’ll find everything you need here at Wickes. To get the same flow rate through the rad as originally you need to open it the same amount as it was before you started. With a range of different styles, sizes and colours, we have a Towel Radiator ideal for any bathroom, simply select the one which best suits the size and estimated heat output for the room. It has a wireless communication function for the replacement of an existing TRV head as well as app capability when connected to the Unisenza Plus Gateway.
