Lagerfeld Grey Classic is the embodiment of this enigma—a fragrance that beckons you into its charismatic embrace.

Eight hours went by and I still have a faint projection in the back of my hand (just 1 spray) and a marvellous skin scent. It is classified as oriental-woody, but it usually behaves in a very particular way on different skins. Put Sonny Rollin’s “Way Out West” on the jukebox, grab a roll of quarters and settle in for old fashion notes of rose, orange, followed by tobacco, dry leather, powder and musk. I have all three on test strip right now and it's like Lagerfeld Classic is between Givenchy Gentleman and Equipage in general smell. Anyone can wear this, but it melds really good for anyone with dark features and oily olive skin for some reason.Even with that, this is really great bang for the buck, and less dated than other offerings of the time. In my opinion, Lagerfeld Classic was launched to pair with Chloé Eau de Parfum, launched in 1975, when Karl still dictated the rules there. Which for me, the tobacco lingers, combined with the presence of warm amber and musk becoming more prominent.

UPDATE*: However, I have to say that I’ve received several compliments from different girls when I could barely smell it, so it may be an olfactory habituation effect. Starts off bright and sweet and later has a very classy, musky, powdery dry down with hints of amber.
