My name is Paul Thomas-Peter, at the time of writing I am 57 years old, I live in York, England and today I had confirmation that my cancer has spread and is incurable.
I was diagnosed with skin cancer (squamous cell carcinoma) about 18 months ago and have had surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy over the last year or so (read the details here) and frankly it hasn’t done a lot of good. The cancer has spread from my temple through the lymph nodes in my head and neck to the lymph nodes near my lungs and will continue spreading. I don’t have a tumour, my cancer is at cell level, apparently its pretty rare.
Over the last few weeks I have researched alternatives to chemotherapy and come up with a cunning plan to try and beat this cancer using natural remedies. I’ve done the research mainly using the internet and reading a few books and in those few weeks I’ve encountered all manner of quackery and charlatans but in amongst it all was some things that appear to have had some success for some people. I’m hoping I might have some success too.
I’m a cynic at heart and have always considered natural remedies, holistic therapies and vegan diets the realm of bunny hugging, new age wankers, but given my circumstances I’m finding that my mind is a tad more open than usual. So I’ve started this blog to document what I’m doing and chart how things are going, though I may just rant from time to time. I hope that it goes on for some years however it may cease somewhat abruptly if everything doesn’t go according to plan.
I don’t know if anyone else will find it useful but I think it might help me stay positive and optimistic during a time when I’m actually shitting myself (not literally obviously, well not yet anyway).
