I enjoyed writing the camaraderie of the group and the way different personalities impacted on Rachel when she was there. Rehab, to me, was a challenging and frightening experience, but it was also kind of lovely. It wasn’t only that it gave me new life, there was something about the humanity and the way people bonded that was soul filling. People come in at their worst but there’s so much of them being their best as well. I wanted to reflect that again, and the fact that Rachel is an unreliable narrator. “I got a lot from writing this book — the joy of writing about rehab again. The potpourri of individuals at the worst time of their lives thrown into this common humanity where they help each other to get well, even if it is accidental.” For once, I was entirely caught up on my work. My caseload was always heavy and my obsessive tendencies probably didn’t help—I usually researched my patients so thoroughly that I could have gone undercover and lived as them.” You’ve got to write books you would read,” Osman says. “I wanted to write an intelligent book that was very accessible. That’s not in a cynical way. I make television and if I’m proud of something I want the maximum number of people to enjoy it. My natural instinct has been to write something that people will take to their hearts.”

Let’s not wait 50 years to reassess funny female writers ever again,” chips in Osman, citing the example of the 1950s comic novelist Barbara Pym. “You had to wait years before people went ‘Oh actually … ” And thank goodness, because 50 years ago we’d still be waiting for… ” I can tell you that Rachel seems to be in a very good place as the story begins; she has a great job as head counsellor at The Cloisters, she is in love, all of her family are around her and she's discovered a love for gardening. Addiction is a thing of the past, except for fancy trainers and a hankering after a Chanel handbag, but who doesn't share those loves? There was no point ever in me asking for something specific—Chanel bags, global cooling, green traffic lights all the way home—the only thing I had consistently been given was an eventual acceptance of my situation, whatever that was.”After lacerating Edin Dan's legs) " Don't talk so impetuously... when you know nothing. I... haven't done anything wrong." [33]

Marian Keyes is just the most talented writer. I adore her, and this book is a pinnacle. It left me sobbing with its beauty, and minutes later laughing out loud at the wit and wry humour of the deeply flawed and deeply human characters' 5* Reader Review

To Androssi Zahard) " Pff!! I'm surprised. You being jealous of me? You already have a lot of the stuff that I want, Endorsi. How could someone like you be jealous of me? This is such a strange feelings and what exactly do I have? Beauty, power, plus you are a Princess. Like a heroine in a fairy tale. I just wish I had been born like that too. We have both had somebody's blood on our hands to climb the Tower, but I'm a nasty bitch and you are a beautiful, cool-headed Princess. And you are forgiven for everything. Isn't that right? Ahh, it must be nice. Being pretty, I mean. I would love you too if I were Baam. I can't understand why Baam follows someone like me around, you know? That bothers you too, doesn't it?" [45] I'm going to have to read it again because I can't bear to leave the characters behind. Wonderful!' 5* Reader Review When Marian Keyes announced she had written a sequel to her 1997 smash hit novel, Rachel’s Holiday, social media went into overdrive. Rachel’s Holiday – which sold more than 1.5m copies and spawned generations of devotees to Keyes’s writing – was a cultural phenomenon, following protagonist Rachel Walsh as she struggled to come to terms with drug and alcohol addiction during a spell in a Dublin rehab clinic, the Cloisters.

The books in this series are heartwarming, humorous, but also meaningful and deep. I learned a huge amount about addiction recovery and how addiction can take on many forms and go through many pathways. Creates BBC game show Pointless,in which contestants attempt to find obscure answers to general knowledge questions. Co-presents it with university friend Alexander Armstrong (above). Writes a number of quiz books between 2012 and 2019. To Baam) " Do you think you were born to come here, defeat Zahard and become the hero that would change this Tower? No, Baam. You weren't born for that. You weren't born to save this Tower. You are a 'Monster', born to curse this Tower and devour everything. Arlene always called you.. A monster." [49] SO GOOD!! I'm giving it the maximum 5 stars but my real rating is more like a thousand stars!! LOL. Marian Keyes is so, so funny - dark and wry and off-the-cuff hilarious. She writes with such emotional intelligence. At times I was just in such complete awe at how deftly she layered the character development. The emotions are so raw and real and vibrant. Rachel is so well-written and memorable, a true joy to spend time with and watch her grow. There were many sensitive topics which were dealt with respectfully. On that note aside from the obvious topic of addiction, I'd give a trigger warning for child loss.

Menopause seemed like a strange country with some very odd practices and I did my best to pretend I’d never be old enough for it. As it happened, I could well have been perimenopausal, but it was hard to be sure, seeing as I already had several of the symptoms. Insomnia? Step right up! Tiredness? Well, that’s just modern life.” Tragedies could hit anyone, I knew I wasn’t immune, but still, to find myself on the wrong side of the divide, to be the object of everyone’s pity instead of being the one doing the consoling, felt all wrong.” Messy, tangled complex humans who reminded me that few of us ever really sort out our lives at all Jojo Moyes
